Neiman Marcus sales drop 2.4 percent in June

Dallas—Same-store sales at Neiman Marcus Inc. decreased 2.4 percent in June to $396 million, compared with $406 million for the same period last year, the company announced on Thursday.
Total revenues for the five-week June period decreased 1.1 percent to $401 million from $406 million in June 2007.
Revenue growth trends were strongest in the company's stores in the Southeast and in New York City.
In the five-week June period, same-store sales in the company's Specialty Retail Stores segment, which includes
Neiman Marcus Stores and Bergdorf Goodman, decreased 2.8 percent.
Women's evening apparel, designer handbags and beauty were the strongest selling categories.
Same-store sales in the company's Neiman Marcus Direct segment, which includes both online and print catalog operations under the Neiman Marcus, Horchow and Bergdorf Goodman brands, decreased 0.2 percent for the period.
The top-selling merchandise categories included women's designer apparel and handbags, accessories, children's and men's.
