East Providence, R.I.—One of the largest and oldest pearl companies, Imperial, has gone business-to-consumer with its Web site, Pearls.com.

Consumers can now order pearl merchandise from the site and then choose to pick up their items at a participating "Partners in Pearls" (PIP) jeweler at the time of checkout.

PIP Director Shana Bell says the PIP program—a selling strategy, integrated support system and alliance between Imperial and its retail members—provides participating jewelers with all of their pearl needs, including pearl education, marketing information and signature clasps.
